About the app

What is MeasuringLens?

MeasuringLens turns an ordinary cup into a measuring cup. You capture a photo of the cup, the app analyzes its geometry, and it then overlays volume measurement markers onto the live camera feed — the same markings you would find printed on the side of a measuring cup. Line the cup up with the markers on screen and fill to the one you need.

How do I measure something with MeasuringLens?
  1. Place an empty cup on a flat surface and open the capture screen.
  2. Frame the cup inside the green capture box, line the blue horizontal line up with the level where ingredients sit inside the cup, and capture.
  3. Choose your units — fluid ounces, cups, milliliters or parts — or select one of your saved recipes.
  4. Hold your phone so the cup lines up with the measurement markers on screen, then fill to the marker you need.
Which iPhone models support MeasuringLens?

MeasuringLens requires iOS 26.5 or later and an iPhone which supports this iOS version. The App Store product page always lists the current device and iOS requirements.

Is MeasuringLens available for Android?

No. MeasuringLens is available for iPhone on iOS only, and there is no Android version at this time.

Does MeasuringLens work on iPad?

MeasuringLens is designed and supported for iPhone only. It depends on the iPhone camera and motion sensors, and we do not support its use on iPad.

Do I need an internet connection?

Measuring and your saved recipes work without an internet connection. However, an internet connection is needed to activate a subscription and for periodic subscription status checking.

Why does MeasuringLens need access to my camera?

The camera is how the app measures. It captures the shape of your cup and provides the live view that the measurement markers are drawn on. Camera imagery is processed on your device and discarded — it is never saved or transmitted. You can review the permission in Settings › Privacy & Security › Camera, but the app cannot measure without it.

Is there a minimum age to use MeasuringLens?

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the app only with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian.

Capturing a cup

Why do I have to line up the blue horizontal line with where the ingredients sit in the cup?

The blue line tells MeasuringLens where the inside bottom of the cup is — the level where ingredients or liquid actually come to rest, not the base of the cup that touches the table.

MeasuringLens only needs the shape of the section that holds ingredients, because that is the only part that affects where measurement markers belong. If the section below that level is included in the analysis, the resulting markers can be inaccurate.

Why am I getting an error when I capture a cup?

A capture error can happen for several reasons:

  • Something is sticking out of the cup. A straw, stirring stick or utensil sticking out of the cup changes the shape the app sees and throws off the measurements. Empty the cup first.
  • The cup is outside the capture box. The cup needs to sit completely inside the green box on the capture screen.
  • The cup can’t be separated from its surroundings. Objects next to, behind or in front of the cup are sometimes mistaken for part of it.

Try capturing the cup from a different angle, or move it somewhere with better lighting and a plainer background.

Which cups work best?

Tall, short, wide or narrow — MeasuringLens is built for whatever cup you already have out. Captures are most reliable when the cup is empty, sitting on a flat surface, evenly lit, framed completely inside the green capture box and set against a plain background with nothing crowding it.

Measurement markers

What is the difference between Auto and Manual mode?

The switch in the lower-left corner of the screen controls how the top measurement marker is positioned. In Auto mode, MeasuringLens detects the top of the cup and positions the marker for you. In Manual mode you position it yourself — drag your finger anywhere on the screen to move the top marker up or down.

In Auto mode, the top measurement marker isn’t at the top of the cup. How do I correct it?

MeasuringLens can occasionally have trouble detecting the full shape of a cup, which places the measurement markers incorrectly. Move the cup to a different location and capture it again; if that doesn’t help, try a different cup.

If the top marker still isn’t right, switch to Manual mode and drag your finger anywhere on the screen to move it into the correct position.

Why doesn’t the bottom measurement marker move when I drag it?

The bottom measurement marker is fixed on the camera feed. Instead of moving the marker to the cup, move your phone until the marker lines up with the level where the ingredients sit in the cup. Everything above it is measured from that point.

Why do the measurement markers move as I tilt my phone?

A camera distorts whatever it looks at. The parts of an object farther from the lens appear smaller than they really are, while the parts closer to it appear larger. The surface of a cup is often tapered as well, rather than perfectly vertical.

To compensate, MeasuringLens combines your device’s gyroscope readings with the measurements taken from the captured image to build an internal 3D model of the cup, then recalculates where every measurement marker belongs as your phone moves. The markers are following the real geometry of the cup rather than drifting.

Which units of measurement can I use?

Fluid ounces, cups (including fractional cup markers), milliliters and proportional parts. When you select a custom recipe, the markers show a fill line for each ingredient instead of standard units.

Recipes

How do I create my own recipes?

Open the picker menu in the upper-left corner of the screen and select Recipes. In the picker that then appears at the top of the screen, select Recipe Mgmt. That opens the form where you create and edit your custom recipes.

How do I rearrange my recipes or ingredients?

In the Recipe Manager, press and hold a recipe until it lifts slightly off the screen, then drag it to the position you want. Ingredients are rearranged the same way.

How do I delete a recipe or an ingredient?

In the Recipe Manager, swipe the recipe or ingredient to the left and tap the red Delete button. You can also tap Edit in the upper-left corner of the Recipe Manager, which shows a delete control for every item.

Are my recipes backed up? What happens if I switch phones?

Recipes are stored on your device only. We operate no servers and never receive them, which also means we cannot recover them for you. If you use iCloud Backup or an encrypted computer backup, your recipes may be included in that backup and restored along with it. Deleting the app removes the recipes stored on that device.

Accuracy & safe use

How accurate is MeasuringLens?

MeasuringLens is built for everyday cooking, baking and drink mixing. It is not a certified measuring instrument, and its measurements are estimates rather than guaranteed values. Accuracy depends on the quality of the capture, how carefully the cup is lined up with the measurement markers on screen, and how steadily you hold your phone.

Can I use MeasuringLens for medical purposes, or anywhere exact measurements are required?

No. Although MeasuringLens uses sophisticated analysis together with your device’s sensors, its measurements are not guaranteed to be accurate every time. Do not use the app for any purpose where an inaccurate measurement could cause harm or loss, including but not limited to:

  • Measuring or dispensing medication, supplements or any dosage.
  • Preparing infant formula, baby food or nutrition for infants and young children.
  • Laboratory, scientific, chemical or industrial measurement.
  • Measuring for anyone whose health depends on precision, such as people with allergies, diabetes or medically restricted diets.

If you have any doubt about whether a use is appropriate, do not use the app for it.

Subscription & billing

What does a subscription include, and is there a free trial?

MeasuringLens requires an active auto-renewing subscription; there is no separate free tier. New subscribers are offered a 14-day free trial, limited to one per Apple Account and not available in every region.

A subscription gives you full access to the live camera measurement view and volume overlay, custom recipes, use on every compatible iPhone signed in to your Apple Account, and ongoing improvements delivered through app updates. The subscription price and billing period are shown in the app and confirmed by the App Store before you complete your purchase.

When will I be charged?

If you start a free trial, you are not charged during the 14 days. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, your Apple Account is charged the then-current subscription price when the trial ends. After that the subscription renews automatically each billing period until you cancel. To avoid a renewal, turn automatic renewal off at least 24 hours before the current period ends.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel at any time. Subscriptions are managed by Apple, so cancellation happens in your Apple Account settings rather than in the app:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions.
  3. Tap MeasuringLens, then Cancel Subscription.

You can also manage it at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for and you keep access until then — you will not be billed anything further. If you cancel during a free trial, you are not billed at all.

Note that deleting the app does not cancel your subscription; you have to cancel through Apple.

How do I restore my subscription on a new or reinstalled iPhone?

Sign in with the same Apple Account you subscribed with, then use the restore option in the app. Restoring an active subscription costs nothing extra.

I’m having a payment problem or want to request a refund.

All payments and refunds are handled through Apple. RealTek Labs does not collect or process any payments and has no ability to issue, deny or expedite a refund on your behalf.

Submit refund requests to Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, where they are granted or denied under Apple’s own policies. If your problem is with the app itself rather than the charge, email us and we’ll take a look.

Privacy & your data

What data does MeasuringLens collect?

We collect no personal data. There are no accounts, no servers of ours and no user database. Camera imagery is processed on your device and discarded, and your recipes and preferences never leave your device.

The only information we receive is the aggregated, non-identifying sales and app-performance reporting that Apple provides to all developers — the standard analytics Apple collects across apps — plus anything you choose to send us by email. Our Privacy Policy covers this in full.

Does MeasuringLens save photos to my Photo Library?

No. The app does not request write access to your Photo Library and does not save captured images anywhere. Images exist in memory only for as long as it takes to analyze the cup.

How do I delete my data?

Your recipes and preferences live on your device: delete them individually in the Recipe Manager, or delete the app to remove all of its local data from that device. If you have emailed us and would like that correspondence deleted, write to support@realteklabs.com and we will delete it.
